sean said "...tag no one, do it if you feel like it" so heres my 6 records of the moment.
shits easy to find on slsk.
01. lily chou-chou - kokyu if [edit] movie had [edit] which should be a party.
02. slogun & sickness - the scars of happiness i always have a harsh noise disc in rotation, this is the pick of the week. slogun is the usual "im a blowhard asshole with some anger to spread", sickness actually goes above and beyond the usual pedal-shit with some neat phase manipulation.
03. young jeezy - the inspiration this record sucks, but its worth the listen just for "i luv it" and "hypnotize", which are fantastic. I COMMAND YOU NIGGAS TO GET MONEY!
04. fatboy slim - better living through chemistry tho this doesnt hold a candle to "youve come a long way baby", i break this out every once-in-a-while and think "raves were like this once". realize you were born in the wrong continent and ten years too late.
05. NANA original soundtrack more proof that i can only be satisfied by melodramatic japanese pop music. nuff said.
06. john maus - songs eric sent this to me a while ago (along with a lot of other, less amazing stuff from the "men making pop songs on casios" genre) and ive listened to it every day since. kind of casiotone for the painfully alone meets the swans meets modern indie-scenesters firing psychedelic shotguns. check the video for my favorite cut on the record.
kirk-intuitions finally sent me the acapella for his track "loveless", which i am supposed to remix. follow the link and tell me what you think i should do with it.
i imagine a jump-up electro house version, a surf+big beat track, an uber-goth version and a screwed+chopped.
what else?
i wonder if he and i could play at luna when this is done. hes got them on his top eight!
going back through my files, im able to pick out three records that i can stand listening to that came out this year.
momus - ocky milk (2006, american patchwork) asobi seksu - citrus (2006, friendly fire) <--thanks chris project pat - crook by da book, the fed story (2006, sony)
after such a long hiatus i hate to even remotely imply that ive been getting back into noise.
but i am.
has anyone heard this shit? from the site --> "Troniks, Ground Fault Recordings and RRRecords are proud to present this limited edition document of contemporary California based experimental, noise, drone and improvised music. Twenty artists each fill an lp side of this 10 x LP boxed set."
almost all the sides are really worthwhile. even the more clatter-wank "experimental" shit. obvious harsh-hits are "in situ" by oscillating innards, and "carburetor" by xome.
i love the records, but hate the people who make them. fuck a label thats gonna put out a 10 lp box! put out a 20 mp3 ZIP and give that shit away! i feel like im turning coat and sucking the collective artfag cock.
noise dudes: any recommendations of the super-harsh variety to get me back in the loop?
there comes a time in every boys life where he must look at all the myspace profiles of all the people in his age group who went to his high school.
the results are not flattering.
some girl got her picture taken with beck, one dude seems to be a motorcycle stunt rider, one guy has a really expensive guitar.. EVERYONE has shitty, automatically playing songs on their profile. (hasnt that been recognized as a major myspace faux pas yet?)
tons seem to have popped out kids or gotten married, tons seem to have become juggalos. girls who were cute then are gross now, guys who were jocks then have tons of drinking pics with subtitles like "keg stand!!!!!!".
( photo exposition ) i dont know where im going with this. just seems everyones turned into a total fucking mutant except the people i still run into.. ok, some of the people i still run into.
ive been working on [what i had been calling] a rap record. played a couple instrumentals for brandon and he told me it was more like electro-pop. sounds good to me.
lots of triangle-wave sub-bass basslines, gangsta 808 snare rushes, detuned jp8000 rave leads, techno influences.. that sort of thing. but i figure with call and response shouts, we grew up in the suburbs but live in the city raps and caricature-ish sense of humor it should come out alright. brain crack quotient very low on this one.
apparently we smoked a thousand marlboro lights with the filters cut off last night.
hold tight.. absolute zero creativity breaks vol 7 will be along shortly. thursday as a matter of fact.
nearly fully situated in detroit. only thing now is to get a slightly bigger desk and a keyboard that isnt carpal-tunnel-city. im thinking das keyboard 2. a little spendy massively fucking overpriced, but for a full time computer nerd i needs that shit!
hobert europe - absolute zero creativity breaks vol 7 is gonna be out in about three weeks. taking some massive time getting all the copies burnt. gonna get those things spread around, hopefully become a superstar dj. or at least get shows where i get free drinks.. cause goddamnit nobody seems to be paying 'round these parts anymore.... yeah, aim for free drinks, then money. take baby steps. click the button to preorder, five bucks:
new track on the myspace too. now, to drink a liter of faygo 60/40 and smoke the rest of my pack of kool XLs. yuck.
